So you’ve taken your business online, created a website and now you want to know how to generate traffic, leads and sales through your new business asset.

There are a number of methods to get eyes on your site and your offer, today I want to quickly show you one of the most popular and effective traffic generation strategies and give you some secrets on how to do it right.

Paid Online Advertising:

Products such as Google Adwords and more recently Facebook Advertising give small business owners a very cost effective highly targeted way to reach your market.

The ability to control your daily budget and target ads based on what people are searching for, or have indicated they are interested in on social media makes paid online very attractive.

Here we will focus on how Google Adwords works and how you can use it in your business.

The basic Google Adwords model is that you can have your ads display whenever someone types in a certain search term or keywords into Google.

For example if you’re a personal trainer on the Gold Coast you might select keywords such as:

  • Gold Coast Personal Trainer
  • Gold Coast Fitness
  • Gold Coast Weight Loss
  • Personal Trainer Gold Coast

You can select as many keywords as you want and specify the amount you are will to pay every time someone clicks on that ad.

Yes that’s is right you only pay when someone actually clicks on your ad.

You then have your ad direct that person to the page where your offer or products are displayed on your website.

The secret to a successful Google Adwords Campaign is to customize the copy of the ad and the landing page when someone clicks on that ad to match the actual search term that someone has entered into Google.

You want each step of the sales funnel to flow seamlessly into the next.

So now someone might type in “Women’s Fitness Gold Coast”

So for that particular keyword you would write an ad that highlights Women’s Fitness in the headline then the landing page of that ad on your site would be targeted towards women, with images and copy that speaks straight to that demographic.

Now this will involve a little more work on the initial set up of your campaign but it will boost your results dramatically.

You also want to think carefully about the copy of your ad in terms of the type of prospects you want to attract.

If you have a free report or some kind of free offer and you mention that in your Adword copy, then you are more likely to attract window shoppers or people chasing something for nothing. This is not ideal when you are paying for each click regardless of whether or not they actually buy anything from you.

You might try directly telling people how much you product or service is in your ad copy so only people ready to buy and happy with your prices will actually click on your ad.

There are other tips and tricks that can ensure you generate maximum ROI from your paid online advertising but starting with these simple guidelines you will be more effective than a large percentage of your competitors.

  1. When writing effective ad copy, there are things we’re allowed to do, and things we are not. Our Google overlords have given us restrictions, rules and stipulations that have the potential to drive any advertiser mad, but that’s ok, this is internet marketing and we love a challenge.
